Getting to or from Montréal airport in a snowstorm
In a Montréal snowstorm, plan extra time on the road, check your flight before leaving, and book transport ahead: taxis and app cars are scarcer exactly when everyone needs one. Every Québec-registered car must have winter tires from December 1 to March 15.

Before you leave
- Check your flight with the airline first; YUL also sends free SMS alerts: text your flight number to 23636. ADM
- Road conditions: Québec 511 (dial 511, the website or the app) shows winter road conditions, warnings and traffic cameras. Québec 511
- Allow extra time for the road: highways to the airport slow sharply in heavy snow.
- Winter tires are mandatory on Québec-registered vehicles from December 1 to March 15 inclusive. SAAQ
- Pre-book: on storm days, the queue for taxis and apps grows while fewer drivers are out.
If you're landing in a storm
- Expect delays on the ground: de-icing, gate holds and slower baggage.
- A pre-booked driver following your flight adjusts to the real landing time.
- Heading to Tremblant or Ottawa: let the driver judge the timing; mountain roads and Highway 417 can be slower than the city.
